The human body expends power, ie calories, not only in motion but also in rest. Here is basal metabolism; It is the metabolism that provides power for the continuity of these basic functions (breathing, blood circulation, digestion, brain and border system functions, cell production..).

Basal metabolic rate, ie BMR; it is called the minimum measure of power that we spend in resting state only for the functioning of vital functions. We can also briefly call it resting metabolic speed to keep it in our minds more easily.

BMR differs according to gender, age, body weight, height, muscle and fat size, hormone levels secreted from endocrine glands and sleep state.

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is calculated with the Harris-Benedict formula in the following form:

Formula for women:

Basal metabolic rate for women is calculated according to the formula:

655 + (9.6 x weight(kg) ) + (1.8 x height(cm) ) – (4.7 x age)

Formula for men:

Basal metabolic rate for men calculated according to the formula:

66.5 + (13.7 x weight(kg) ) + (5 x height(cm) ) – (6.7 x age)
