1. What is Sustainable Nutrition?

We can define sustainable nutrition as “a diet with low environmental impacts that contributes to food and nutritional security and a healthy life for today and future generations”.

A sustainable food system; We can say that it includes protecting biological diversity and ecosystems, culturally acceptable, accessible, economically fair and affordable, while optimizing natural and human resources, it is sufficient in terms of nutrition, faith and health. When we consider it as a whole, we can see that the concept of sustainable nutrition is actually a multidisciplinary concept that includes the control of the entire food system.

2. What are the Sustainable Diet Goals and Aims?

Sustainable diets are not only healthy, but also sustainable for environmental, economic and social systems, and the purposes of all these systems are different from each other.

2.1. Purpose of economic purposes; is to ensure that sustainable foods are more economically sufficient alternatives. Establishing more affordable and natural power usage systems will reduce the producer’s costs, while providing the consumer with a more affordable food consumption chance with minimized environmental damage.

2.2. Purpose of social purposes; is to ensure that food sets suitable for classical habits are accessible to all parts of the society.

2.3. The target of environmental objectives; It is the minimization of possible biological effects against nature in all phases where food is delivered from the field to the table.

As a result; In sustainable diets, we need to evaluate a food in terms of sustainability from production to consumption. While doing this, we must consider the rapid population growth, urbanization, increasing economic power, changing dietary habits and globalization, as well as climate change and the sustainability of natural resources. In this direction, sustainable food systems should be healthy and corrective, and at the same time, environmental damage should be less.

3. What are the Sustainable Diets?

Sustainable diets are valuable in order to ensure continuity that they are suitable for the nutritional habits of individuals, that is, individual nutrition must be made sustainable.

Biodiversity, water and carbon footprint, environment and human health should be considered at all stages. When nutritional models are evaluated in terms of all these purposes, it is seen that plant-based diets come to the fore. These sustainable diets; It is listed as the Mediterranean Diet, the Nordic Diet, the Classical Japanese Diet, and the Vegetarian Diet.
