Combating Anxiety:
First of all, we need to know the emotion we are going to fight. Who we avoid, whom we do not want in our lives. Is what we’re running away from to harm us? Or does it just cause negativity while trying to create a good situation? Or do we misunderstand it? For the answer to all of these, let’s first get to know anxiety.
Anxiety; arising in situations perceived as danger or threat; It is an automatic, healthy and natural response mechanism that involves emotional, behavioral and physical changes and reactions.
In a sense, anxiety is our organism’s fight-flight response.
From this, we understand that the purpose of existence of anxiety is not to harm us, but to protect us from external stimuli.
Let’s explain this with an example. Let’s imagine that the feelings of anxiety and fear are taken from us, when you think about it, I can hear you say “oh I wish” or say “how comfortable my life would be”. At this very moment, ask yourself this question. How many hours could I have survived without your anxiety and fear? I answer; maximum 1 hour. In this 1 hour, you would definitely cut yourself, burn yourself, maybe hit a car or experience a similar situation. Because what prevents all these is actually the feelings of anxiety and fear. These feelings push us to be more careful about the harm that may come from the outside world. So we can thank our anxiety and fear for being with us.
But is every danger perceived by anxiety real? Or does it overlap with the abstract dangers we create in our minds and cause physical reactions? The answer to this question will teach us how to deal with anxiety.
Mankind has protected itself against the stimuli of the outside world since the first ages. This situation has developed according to the dates, has evolved just like us, but has not changed. This is because this situation, which is recorded in our subconscious, may cause us to perceive these automatic thoughts, which are not real, produced in one’s own mind, whose reality can be questioned, and which can be compared with reality, as a danger, and cause us to give physiological reactions to the danger in the same external world. The moment the person realizes this situation and realizes that he is no longer overreacting to unreal dangers rather than real dangers, he realizes this and begins to learn to change the beliefs and thoughts that cause anxiety. The intense anxiety he is experiencing will gradually disappear from his life. Along with thought management, the person’s life, the amount of alcohol and cigarettes he consumes, his diet and whether he includes exercise in his life are also related to anxiety. If there is one thing to remember, it is this; A healthy soul and a healthy body are directly proportional to each other. When one of them is missing, the system breaks down.
