Hypothyroidism is a disease caused by insufficient functioning of the thyroid gland, which manifests itself with difficulty in losing weight, finitude, fatigue, dry skin, constipation, and headache. Thyroid hormone is such a valuable hormone that it affects all bodily functions. The most common one we encounter today is Hashimoto’s thyroid.
Hypothyroidism negatively affects life;
- May increase cholesterol and triglyceride levels
- Slows lymph flow and this causes edema
- Problems in digestion of nutrients in consumed food
- Metabolism slows down
- The person may start to gain weight
- Menstrual irregularity may occur in women
How to feed in hypothyroidism?
Iodine deficiency causes hypothyroidism, so the use of iodized salt is valuable.
Sometimes the use of iodized salt may not be enough, if the person takes too much goitrogen nutrients, iodine absorption is prevented. Especially cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, radishes, cauliflower, turnips, soybeans, mustard, peanuts should not be consumed too much raw. Consuming it by cooking will be healthier as it will reduce the amount of goitrogen.
Avoid foods containing caffeine, especially coffee, tea, cola, chocolate.
Thyroid functions become irregular when selenium is malnourished. Fish, beef liver, turkey and beef, lentils, mushrooms, sesame, walnuts, sunflower seeds and whole grains should be consumed in sufficient quantities in order not to decrease the selenium level.
Chocolate also contains cadmium, so thyroid patients should consume it carefully. Excess cadmium removes selenium from the body.
Omega-3 has the feature of regulating thyroid functions, consume fish twice a week.
Try to consume whole grain artifacts and legumes. Dried legumes are an adequate source of vegetable protein and should be consumed 2 times a week. If you smoke, try to quit, smoking reduces thyroid functions.
The most common problem in the thyroid is edema. For this reason, never neglect your water consumption, try to drink 2-2.5 liters of water a day.
Healthy days..
