Why Do We Need to Attack Food?
Eating is a physiological need in people’s lives. Sometimes we forget that this need is physiological and we make eating a social need. The biggest problems usually start at this stage because after a while we can’t even watch TV without eating.
When we take the activity of eating to the center of our lives and attach great meanings, when the time comes, we start to eat as if we will lose ourselves and as if we will never reach that food again. When this attacking behavior becomes a habit, the normal eating behavior begins to move away from us.
There can be many reasons for the attacking movement. If we briefly touch on these reasons;
- Insufficient Water Consumption: Water, which has an important place in the functioning of our organs, can cause a feeling of hunger when taken insufficiently. Especially on days when we sweat, there is a loss of water from the body, thus a loss of minerals, and you may feel hungry.
- Mobility: You may be having a more active day compared to other days. It may be a day when your exercises increase or your intensity is high. Both your energy expenditure and your water loss may have increased.
- A Diet Full of Prohibitions: What we forbid ourselves will attract more attention. If even a food that you do not normally consume is declared as “forbidden” in your diet, that food will start to take its place in the back of your mind. As soon as the ban is lifted or even before the ban is lifted, your desire to eat that food can reach its highest level and you may feel the need to attack. A balanced diet that aims to eat healthy rather than restrictive diets is always the best option.
- Insufficient Portion: When you starve yourself for weight loss, not getting enough energy can cause your body to give up. Even if your fasting diet seems to be going well at first, there will of course be a point where your body overreacts and shows an attacking movement.
- Turning to Liquid Nutrition: Turning to ‘detox’ drinks for rapid weight loss may cause you to feel more hungry because you do not chew. Applying methods that are contrary to human physiology can cause the body’s systems to change.
- Mens Period: Almost all of the systems in the body change with the hormonal changes of women. You may need to consume more during periods such as pre-men, mens period, post-mens. Attacks can be prevented by eliminating vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
- Mood Change: When emotional bonds come between you and food, your need for food will begin to be determined by your brain, not by your stomach. You should minimize the tendency to eat in happy, sad, angry, stressful moments.
- Drug Use: Some drugs can cause a feeling of hunger in the body. Meal times and meal contents should be arranged by a nutritionist, taking into account your medication.
- Inability to Adjust Meal Times: If you do not leave an appropriate interval between 2 main meals for your digestion time, your stomach will either be overfilled or you will starve for a long time. Meal times should be adjusted according to your digestion.
All of these can be a separate ‘attack’ reason. The right choice is always healthy eating. If you are faced with one or more of the factors here, it would be best to get help from a dietitian to get a professional solution and program your nutrition correctly.
